Mastering: Blessing the Project

Once a song is recorded, then mixed to perfection, it's nearly ready. All that has to be done now is to "master" the recording. Mastering a recording has taken on new meaning in today's studio compared to the original process of recording directly to a vinyl disc. The purpose is generally the same however — to get the recording onto a media that acts as the "master" for reproduction. At the same time, a bit of a boost of sound level occurs during the mastering process. There are frightening stories of some record companies trying to kick up their mastered levels to be louder than other recordings as if there was a sound war going on between companies. The Song Masters do not create overly boosted recordings. Instead, they deliver your master as a recording with levels that have found that "sweet spot."
